It was late in 2007 that Diya, the 10 year old daughter of Anindya Datta, asked her dad what the word “deck” meant. When directed to consult the dictionary, Diya eventually returned to report that she found 7 different meanings of the word. This got Anindya thinking that dictionaries would be way more helpful if they were able to provide the exact meaning that was required – after all, people usually looked up a word upon encountering it in a certain context and wanted to know what it meant in that specific context. Anindya noodled with this idea for a while, added some meat to the basic contextual meaning theme, and described it to Jay Clark, his friend and partner in a different venture they were engaged in at that time. Jay liked it too and they decided to start Wordster to implement the project.
